A very nice example of a

World War One

French-Manufactured

Cotton/Silk Handkerchief

Royal Air Force

sent home from France during the last year of

The Great War

c.1918

Such silk & cotton handkerchiefs & postcards were bought by

British & Commonwealth soldiers serving on the Western Front,.

Having been embroidered by local

French & Belgian women, they were then sent to small

factories to be turned into personal souvenirs

for the troops to either buy when on leave behind the lines,

or to post back home to their loved ones from

The Front.

Measuring approx 10" x 10" when opened

and featuring an embroidered emblem of the new

post-Royal Flying Corps

Royal Air Force

this example is in a nice condition for being over 100 years old

(with a just a few low-key small stains & expected age-marks)

and an evocative aviation survivor of

The Great War...

 Thanks for looking..!
