A very nice example of a matched pair of

World War One

Royal Naval Trench Art

in the shape of two

candle/spill holders fashioned from shell cases

bearing the legend

HMS HIBERNIA

A King Edward VII pre-Dreadnought battleship,

HMS Hibernia was built at Devonport and entered front-line

service in 1907 as the Flagship of first the Atlantic Fleet

and then the Channel Fleet.

In 1912 , when based with the Home Fleet, she

contributed to naval aviation history when,

fitted with a temporary runway on her fore-deck,

she landed the first ever aeroplane at sea.

After the outbreak of The Great War

HMS Hibernia undertook Northern Patrols looking for vessels

from the Kaiser's Imperial German Navy until 1915,

when she was then transferred to serve in the Gallipoli Campaign.

Decommissioned in 1919 she was scrapped in 1922.

With each holder measuring approx 3.5" high,

superbly & carefully engraved

and mounted on small circular wooden bases,

these are a superb example of Great Naval Trench Art.

in an excellent, issued condition.
