MODEL TRAIN ANIMATION - MAN HAMMERING A NAIL WITH ACTION AND SOUND

Here we have a model train animation of a man moving his arm up and down to hammer a nail.  When he strikes the nail there is a sound.  The speed of the hammering can be adjusted.  Most hammering is done quickly.

Watch the video to see the animation in action.  It says it all.  The man is chopping wood this time.  The tool can be changed to a hammer and the sound would be changed to the hammer sound.

The unit is housed in a small black plastic box.  We call it the Motor Sound Box or MSB. The speaker is a separate piece that gets plugged in and has an 8-inch cable.  The power supply also plugs in.

The motor turns a pulley wheel that has an offset screw that pushes and pulls on a connecting wire to the arm of the figure.  The offset screw also holds a magnet on the opposite side that triggers the sensor as it turns. The sensor controls when the sound gets played.  There is also a sound switch that can select between a nail sound and a wood chopping sound.  Two tools are included: a hammer and an axe.  Both of these can be held by the figure (not at the same time).

The speaker is in a small, one inch square, black box with a #4 mounting hole on opposite sides.

There is also a small screw that is used to adjust the voltage to the motor; which controls its speed.  If more voltage is applied then the motor will turn faster and vice versa.  When you hammer a nail you move the hammer quickly and strike the nail.  Varying the voltage will allow you to control the hammering speed.  Chopping wood would be done at a slower speed.

Here is a Mark Twain quote, "To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

Included with this animation are the motor sound box, speaker, power supply, hammer, axe and figure.

The figure is two inches tall and will work with O and S scale, model trains.  It is actually a Playmobil child figure.  There are many of these available but what the child is wearing is colorful and childlike.  The child can be dismantled and easily painted.  The figure is mounted on a black plastic rectangle.  The rectangular piece has a screw hole in the center that will hold a #4 screw.  Screw a #4 screw through the center hole and down into the layout to hold the figure securely.

The unit was mounted on narrow 1x2 board.  The figure was mounted using the center screw as described before.  The speaker is shown mounted next to the figure. The MSB was mounted behind them.  The connection between the MSB and the figure's arm is a length of wire with loops in the ends.  Depending on where you place the figure and the MSB determines the length of the wire.  Several lengths of this wire are included.  It is an 18 gauge steel wire.  You can find it at any hardware store.

Thanks for looking.

We have plans to make a similar figure holding a shovel and shoveling coal.
