Gemstone: Magnesite

Typically white in color, magnesite ranges from yellow to white to grey in its natural form.  Magnesite is stabilized for added strength and durability and has a hardness and texture similar to turquoise and marble.

Use: The dyed color makes it an economical substitution for high-end turquoise and it is popular in a wide range of jewelry styles.

Beads are color-enhanced to a beautiful color resembling natural turquoise.

Appearance: Exhibits Light to Moderate Matrix

The gemstone naturally creates the dark to light brown veining, or matrix. The amount of matrix varies between stones.

Enhancements: Dyed & Stabilized

Stabilized to improve color, durability, hardness & polish.

A note about stabilization:

Stabilized turquoise magnesite is created by adding a clear resin to the stone to enhance the color and increase the hardness.  Magnesite is very porous allowing the resin to fill the tiny holes and crevices to form a firm stabilized stone.  Dyed stones are treated with a colored resin instead of clear.
