Tonearm silicone damping fluid

suitable for Linn LV V / LV X / Akito etc

This Buy It Now listing is for an easy application syringe with replaceable end cap, containing approximately 3ml of 300,000 (300k) cSt High quality, highly viscous silicone oil, perfect for servicing tone arm lowering mechanisms that "fall to quickly"

You will need to be able to disassemble your decks lowering / cueing arm mechanism, before thoroughly cleaning away all remnants of old / dried fluid & applying this fresh product, so please only purchase if you are able to confidently do so, as instructions are not included due to the amount of various mechanisms used by different manufacturers.

The basic principle though, is fairly universal with these arm lowering mechanisms. Consisting of a piston housed inside a cylinder that is raised and lowered via a cam mechanism attached to the external hand lever, often the cylinder has a removable screw top or bottom- sometimes locked with small grub screws.

Notes specifically for opening the Linn cuing mech:

Remove the black ring around the lift piston to reveal a retaining ring which holds down a washer and the lift spring. Remove those and you can pull out the piston entirely.

Over time (many years/ decades) the thick silicone oil that sits between the cylinder wall and the piston may migrate or degrade and the arm will then fall toward the record too quickly when the lowering arm is operated. This fluid is the correct replacement, a highly viscous oil, so thick it is almost grease like - the amount you add to the mechanism will also affect the rate of decent of the tonearm.

I have used this product myself in the past to service arm cueing mechanism, with excellent results - although with my first attempt I did not add enough silicone oil and as a result the arms lowering rate was quicker than I wished, after adding a further small dose of this highly viscous oil, the arm lowered beautifully smoothly & slowly onto the record.. (..and it still does now, years after!) it is possible that you may need similar trial & error to achieve the exact lowering speed / rate you desire.

Having repaired, serviced & sold many record decks over the years, I am happy to offer this item for sale.
