These cufflinks are made of highly polished wood from the Bolivian rosewood tree, Machaerium scleroxylon. The grain and features are captured very well. Rosewood is a beautifully fine-grained exotic hardwood. All of this marbling, grain and striations that you see are 100% natural. I have used no stains. I love wearing these ones because they look great without being over the top or gaudy.
The ivory portion is made from tagua nut, a dense little tropical nut used as a substitute for small inlay work.
The shape is generally rectangular, sawn by a miter saw, but curved by being sanded. They are clear coated, then sanded once again for good measure and clear coated again! This way they have a deep luster to them. They were pretty labor intensive :) My dad created these parts in his garage!
They measure 7/8" x 5/8" x 3/16".
