Michael Aram Small Molten Oval Dish 13.5in Stainless Steel Modern Serving Tray

The "Motten" Oval Dish is designed by American metal-ware designer Michael Aram.  Trained as a painter, sculptor, and art historian, Aram has neatly applied his fine arts background to the decorative arts.  In addition to being a design statement, Aram's work is also a celebration of craft in that each piece is entirely hand made using age old metalworking traditions. 

The Small Moten Oval Dish was hand formed taking a sheet of stainless steel and pounding it cold with hammers.  The top edge of the piece is later "welded" as ornamentation.  Bridging the gap between the artist and artisan is Aram's hallmark and is what allows his pieces to shift beautifully between the realms of fine and decorative art.  The is enduring melange of quality and originality sits comfortably at home in contemporary as well as in more classical interiors.
