A superb and rare Regency / Georgian antique gigot sleeve dress dating to the 1820s - possibly a summer dress, possibly a morning dress to be worn around the home ? One piece, in lightweight white cotton, the bodice loose at the front, gathered in to the waist and round neck front and back, with three rows of applied plaited cord in pistachio green. The dress fastens in the back with buttons and a hook at the waist, and there is an internal waist tie. Sensational huge leg o' mutton sleeves, cut extra long to be worn gathered , full balloons at the top ( i've stuffed them to get the correct shape ) fitted from elbow to cuff, with a sharp pleat detail and more of the cord. Raise waist, with a self waistband, the skirt narrow to the floor, fuller in the back, with horizontal pleat and cording detail. A fantastic museum worthy piece.
