Before Ovulation Tests

1. Calculate the length of your normal menstrual cycle

Start counting on day one of your period (the first day of bleeding or spotting) — and stop counting on the first day of your next period. This is the length of your cycle. If your cycle is irregular, you may want to use your shortest cycle length to determine when to test.

2. Determine the day to begin testing

Using the chart below by finding the number that corresponds to the length of your cycle to help determine the day you should begin testing. If you do not know your cycle length, you may begin the test 11 days after your first period since the average cycle is 28 days.

Before Pregnancy Tests

The test can do at any time of the day, but we suggest you to use the first morning urine to get the most accurate result. Do not drink a lot of fluid before the test as there might not be enough HCG to give a positive result.

How to Do the test

Step 1: Collect your urine in a clean, dry, plastic or glass container.

Step 2: Remove the testing kit from a foil pouch by tearing at the notch. Immerse the strip into the urine with arrow pointing towards the urine for 3 seconds. IMPORTANT: do not allow the urine level to exceed the MAX (marker line), otherwise the test may not perform correctly.

Step 3: Take the strip out and lay it flat on a clean, dry, non-absorbent surface. Read the results within 5 minutes. Do not read results after 5 minutes.

Step 4: Throw the test card away once you’ve read the result.

How to Read the Results

Ovulation Tests:

1. Positive Result (LH Surge): That means you will probably ovulate in the next 24-48 hours after the first positive ovulation test. It is the best time to have intercourse after 24 but before 48 hours if trying to get pregnant.

2. Negative Result (No LH Surge): That means there is no LH surge and you should continue testing daily.

3. Invalid: It may be due to insufficient specimen volume or incorrect test performance. Repeat with a new test.

Pregnancy Tests:

Negative (Not Pregnant): One colored line appear at the control line saying that you are not pregnant, but your period does not start within a few days, take another test again. If the result of the later test still shows negative but you think you are pregnant, please call your doctor to do a blood test.

False Negative Result: The test says you are not pregnant but you indeed are.

You might get a false negative result if you:

* Do the test too early: you may have miscalculated when your period was due. Take the test again a week or two after a negative result if you have not had a menstrual period by then. The HCG will gradually increase during pregnancy.

Check the test result too soon: the complete reaction time of 3 minutes is required to confirm negative result.

Use diluted urine. Morning urine test is preferable and make sure your urine is non-polluting.

Positive (Pregnant): 2 colored lines appear at the control line and test line. No matter how faint the lines sign, you can assume you are pregnant. Contact your doctor to confirm your result with physical exam or a blood test.

False Positive Result: The test says you are pregnant but you are actually not.

False positive result is rare compared with false negative result, but it can happen if you had a miscarriage or have given birth in the past 8 weeks (hCG may still be in your system).

Certain drugs containing hCG or that are used in combination with hCG can also give a false positive result. In such condition, you need to contact your doctor for help. However, you can rest assured that most medicines should not affect the results of a home pregnancy test, including over-the-counter and prescription medicines such as birth control and antibiotics. Also, alcohol and illegal drugs do not affect pregnancy test results.

Invalid: No visible lines at all or only a visible line appeared in the test zone not in the control zone.

Repeat with a new test kit. Each test is designed for a single use and should not be reused.
