An original antique map of the world as it was at the very start of the 19th century, on two sheets. One titled "The New World or Western Hemisphere", the other, "The Old World or Eastern Hemisphere." Published by "Laurie & Whittle, Fleet Street", and dated 1st Oct., 1801.

A fascinating map, "with the addition of all the New Discoveries." The various voyages of Cook and Perouse are marked and dated. The south coast of Australia (here New Holland) had yet to be surveyed so it is left blank. So too some of Jesso (Japan). Canada's northern border was completely unknown, with Baffin's Bay marked as landlocked. The "United States" are a slim sliver along the East Coast of America, whilst Native American tribes (Snake, Blackfoot, etc.) are noted in the expanse of North America.

The maps are in a good condition, with attractive old handcolouring. Probably taken from "A New and Elegant General Atlas."which was first published in 1808. Holes along the top edge show that the two sheets were taken from a bound book.

They would frame up very nicely.

Size: each sheet measures approx. 33cms x 27cms.
Condition: Generally in a good condition, with attractive old handcolouring. Margins a little marked with occasional foxing. Stain in the South Pacific Ocean on the western hemisphere. Otherwise, good. Please study my photographs.

Postage: £7.50 within the UK. £13.00 to Europe, £20.00 to USA etc.
