Made in the wake of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), the comic Hot Times at Montclair High (1989) is one of a slew of hard-partying teen comedies that the major studios cranked out in the 1980s. Ross Hamilton stars as Sean Willis, a handsome jock whose streak of good luck has lately begun to sour. Not only has a flunked science test put Sean’s athletic scholarship in jeopardy, but his pert cheerleader girlfriend (Kim Valentine) has been seen flirting with a snotty rock ’n’ roller (Michael Bates). When the guitar-slinger sexually assaults Willis’s girl, the jock hero enlists two friends to help teach the musician a lesson he’ll never forget. Thankfully director Jose Altonaga is wise enough to realize that no ’80s teen movie is complete without some gratuitous nudity. Kim Anderson is the trouper who sheds her threads for the camera during an unforgettable girl’s-locker-room party.
