1978 JAMAICA FAO 1c PCGS SP65 EX: KINGS NORTON MINT COLLECTION

A rare, high quality, PCGS certified “Specimen 65” example of the Jamaican 1978 Food & Agricultural Organization (FAO) 1c from the former King’s Norton Mint collection.

These specimens with the Kings Norton Mint pedigree are rare and highly sought after by collectors of UK and individual country coinage.

From 1914 to 1991 the Kings Norton Mint struck coinage for almost 100 countries associated with the British empire.

Like most mints, the Kings Norton Mint kept a few examples of each coin as part of their archives.

In 2005, the Kings Norton Mint collection was sold and a few high quality examples of each coin were submitted to PCGS for grading. The examples that were submitted to PCGS were early strikes from from new, polished dies that were run at lower coin press speeds. These examples were specially designated as “Specimens” by PCGS and are much higher quality than the average uncirculated pieces. These examples also received the “Ex King’s Norton Mint Collection” pedigree. Most specimens went to the Birmingham Museum, but some specimens were sold to collectors.
