Perch un nuovo libro sui leggendari runabouts in mogano si chiedera il lettore? La risposta e molto piu semplice di quando uno posso pensare. Ascoltantodalla viva voce di Carlo Riva cio che si cela dietro ciascuna delle sue conquiste nautiche, non si puo fare a meno di sentirsi emovitamente coinvolti e di provare un forto desiderio di por mano alla penna.Col passare del tempo, ha preso cosi forma l,idea di risrivere a quattro mani la storia di questo mito che non invecchia, creando, come fanno i compositori, uno spartico ricco di note e tonalita. Cio che affascina sono proprio i fatti , le vicende, gli aneddoti, gli episodi piu salienti che hanno contraddistinto e segnato la vita dell,uomo, dell,artista, dell,imprenditore e di tante persone che, direttamente o indirettamente, sono entrate a far parte della leggenda. Da ogno singolo aspetto e dettaglioi di costruzione , Carlo Riva svela i retroscena , il lungo , paziente e costante lavore di ricerca, fatto talvolta di insuccessi, di insoddisfazioni, di prove e riprove , per ottenere a tutti i costi eccellenza, estetica, sicurezza e razionalita. Il suo contagioso modo di raccontare i fatti trasforma persino i contenuti tecnici, per certi versi aridi ed ostici ai frofani, in argomenti piacevoli ed interessanti. Un libro dunque di cui si puo considerare autore lo stesso Carlo Riva che narra e rivive, in un intreccio di emozioni, la sua galoppante ed entusiasmante vita da  barcaiolo, da cui prorompono, ancor oggi , la sua mai sopita passione per il mare e il  suo profondo amore per le indimenticabile ed intramontabili ' vecchie signore dell mare'

Why a new book about legendary mahogany runabouts the reader will ask? The answer is much simpler than I might think. Hearing from Carlo Riva's voice what lies behind each of his nautical conquests, one cannot help but feel emotionally involved and experience a strong desire to put pen to paper. As time passed, the idea of rewriting the story of this myth that never ages, creating, as composers do, a score rich in notes and tones. What is fascinating are precisely the facts, the events, the anecdotes, the most salient episodes that have distinguished and marked the life of the man, the artist, the entrepreneur and of many people who, directly or indirectly, have entered into part of the legend. From every single aspect and construction detail, Carlo Riva reveals the behind the scenes, the long, patient and constant research work, sometimes made up of failures, dissatisfaction, trials and tribulations, to obtain excellence, aesthetics, safety and rationality. His contagious way of telling the facts transforms even the technical contents, in some ways dry and difficult for outsiders, into pleasant and interesting topics. A book therefore of which Carlo Riva himself can be considered the author who narrates and relives, in a mix of emotions, his galloping and exciting life as a boatman, from which, even today, his never-dormant passion for the sea and the his deep love for the unforgettable and timeless 'old ladies of the sea'
