19th C Polychrome Inlaid Trick Treen Shoe Snuff Box Nautical Sailor Art 6” Wood
This is not the most expensive Shoe snuff box, but it is the largest and most unusual we have seen. We think it is French but could be wrong, we could find nothing similar. The shoe has three different colors of wood, and about 300 little nails or studs. The box opens by swiveling the lid to the side, the pulling the second lid towards the heel of the shoe. The top lid has evidently swelled a little since it was made, and it doesn’t quite close all the way. We think it my be sailor’s or perhaps prisoner’s art, as there is an anchor design to the studs on the front.
6” long, 1 ½” wide x 2 ¼” tall.
