This porcelain half doll ( incision GERMANY 8510 on back) had been found with her original pincushion that has Crowley Milner & Co tag on bottom. Crowley Milner & Company was a department store chain founded in Detroit,  Michigan in 1909 and were widely known for their lavish Christmas displays. Crowley’s were operating in many states until 1999 and some of them later on became Value City department stores.
From the beginning Crowley’s were selling many goods and souvenirs from Europe - it turns out that they were selling German half doll pincushions as well!
Doll’s pincushion has significant signs of age and probably it was made in 1930s; there are no needle marks on it- the doll definitely was not used for its intended purpose to hold needles and pins.
To preserve this tiny bit of US history I made cotton fabric incasing for the original pincushion and added blue lace that serves as doll’s skirt. Skirt is embellished by vintage satin ribbon handmade bows with Swarovski crystals . I also made the matching bodice top using same blue vintage ribbon and blue crystal. The incasing and bodice top are removable.
The doll is about 4” tall.
