Thinning my personal collection as I age so offering a very finely made vintage signed Makonde carving.
It's a Binadamu, one of the 4 categories of Makonde work, showing a traditional food prep scene.
Superior carving was very finely finished by Mr. Boko, no angled rough work.
Much time must have been spent on this ebony piece that is so difficult to work with.
Plenty of light outer bark contrasting against the super dark brown, nearly black heartwood.
There is nice wavy banding in the natural ebony, no staining nor any black shoe polish.
Very hefty solid carving is about 13" tall and weighs in at 5 lbs.
You'll have a tough time trying to find a better carved and finished piece.
This top quality is from 1950's - 70's.  Signed Jo Boko.  Buyer will be pleased.
I may sound confident about all this as I did spend 4 years outside Kikuyu, 30 mi from Nairobi,
50 years ago so have seen and do own many quality ebony Kenya/Tanzania carvings and avoid the lesser quality.
Insured FedEx shipping included no extra, will pack well.  Non smoking no pet home.
