1837 LIBERTY SEATED SILVER HALF DIME - AU*

No Stars, Large Date

(Curl Top 1)

V-1a
1837 was the only Philadelphia issue of the Seated dime series without stars or a legend on the obverse periphery.

Obverse 1.2 die crack at cap...after the V-1 coins were struck, the obverse die was lapped to remove the repunched digits. Except for the 7 on this coin, they are not visible on the obverse of the V-1a. A remnant of the misplaced 8 is shown in the dentils.

Reverse A.2 – The crack from the top of A3 (second A in AMERICA) to the dentils is a confirming marker. The reverse die chip left of E3 (of AMERICA) creates a moderately large raised bump on the leaf tip.

Nice bright silver-white surfaces throughout. Abrasions noted on left reverse.
