From the back of the calendar:

For the legion of devoted fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy and THE HOBBIT this year's illustrated calendar is a bold departure from past editions.

This all-new calendar presents the wonders of Middle-earth as envisioned by a distinguished group of the world's foremost fantasy artists:
DOUGLAS BEEKMAN - PETER CARAS - ROBERT CHRONISTER -
THE BROTHERS GENTILE - MICHAEL HERRING - HOWARD KOSLOW -
CARL LUNDGREN - DARREL SWEET - MICHAEL WHELAN - GEORGE ZEIL

The original works reproduced in this calendar were inspired by THE LORD OF THE RINGS and THE HOBBIT by J.R.R. Tolkien, originally published by George Allen & Unwin Ltd., first published in the United States by Houghton Mifflin and Co. Published in paperback by Ballantine Books.

The 1980 J.R.R. TOLKIEN CALENDAR includes full Middle-earth chronological information adjusted from the Shire Calendar in accordance with THE RETURN OF THE KING, Appendix D (. 483, Ballantine Books edition). Some dates are further adjusted for Leap Year, since the Shire Calendar adds the extra day on June 22 (Midyear's Day, or Overlithe), rather than on February 29.
