A nice, issued example of a
World War Two
RAF Bomber Command
Downed Aircrew's Silk
Escape & Evasion Scarf Map
for
Northern France,
The Channel Islands, Low Countries & Western Germany.
c.1944-45
Measuring approx 20" x 17"
and in a good overall condition,
(apart from light fraying around the edges),
the single-sided, colour map
printed on to an off-white silk panel with cream edges,
shows just the south east corner of
Britain and The Channel
(from Portsmouth to Harwich)
but details France, The Channel Islands, Belgium
Luxembourg & Holland.
As such, this impressive escape map ranges from
The Loire in the west up to Groningen & Hanover in the east
and down south-west as far as Strasbourg
and the Western German border,
to provide a comprehensive coverage of the geography under
the RAF heavy bomber routes to and from Germany.
In a good overall 'un-ironed' condition and with just what appears to be a
single, tiny cigarette burn-hole amidships,
(that is only noticeable from the back)
so making for a great air-crew souvenir from the
RAF's WW-II heavy bombing campaigns..
