A delightful genuine Victorian map of Kent, the map surrounded by small handcoloured vignettes.
Taken from a children's Atlas published in 1845 by Darton & Clark, called "Reuben Ramble's Travels through the Counties of England."

The map in fact dates from 1821, when it appeared in Robert Miller's "New Miniature Atlas..." For this later children's map, the railway from London to Dover has been added. The map is surrounded with vignettes, from top right in a clockwise direction; Rochester (with the bridge, the castle and the cathedral); Dover Castle; Hop-picking scenes (along the bottom); Shakespeare Cliff, Dover; and top left, Canterbury Cathedral.

I bought this map many years ago from a shop in Worcester, which is no longer there. As well as selling antique maps and prints, they sold greetings cards, one of which was the Reuben map of Kent. They gave me a copy, as they had used the very map which I was buying for the image on the card (you can just make out the faint stain I mention in the condition report for the map). On the back of the card is the text that is found in the atlas.

A most attractive antique Victorian county map, complete with a modern card, using the antique map image.

I am also selling the Sussex map with its card, in a similar frame. Please see my other items.

Size: the frame measures 35cms x 31.5cms.
Condition: In a very good condition, with lovely old handcolouring. Just one faint stain below the map. In a good modern frame, double glazed to show the title page on the back (I think with the text for Kent underneath it).

Postage: £7.00 within the UK. £12.00 to Europe, £26.00 to USA etc.
I have other antique maps, books, prints etc. in my ebay shop - please see my other items.
