The origins of the Wood family in Stoke-on-Trent goes back over 250 years to the famous Master Potters, Ralph and Enoch Wood who were contemporaries of Josiah Wedgwood and whose ware is highly-prized and much sought after to this day. The present company was founded in 1884 in Longport, Stoke-on-Trent. Under the family's management, the firm expanded considerably offering well-designed, quality earthenware products at affordable prices, especially teapots and teapot sets. During the 1930's and 1940's, the company acquired several other pottery manufacturers including Price Brothers Ltd., Kensington Pottery Ltd., Davenport Pottery Co. Ltd., and Carlton Ware acquired in 1967. Arthur Wood Pottery closed their doors in 2003 after being purchased by a different company.
