Replica of four of Titanic's keys on a double ring and brass
tag with punched lettering "Binocular Box". One of these keys
belonged to the binocular box on the bridge of the R.M.S. Titanic. It is
unknown where the other three were used. Officer David Blair inadvertently
removed all the keys including the crow’s nest key when he left the Titanic and
was replaced by Henry Wilde.
It is interesting to note that the binoculars owned by Titanic’s
original Second Officer David Blair were one of the few instruments known to
have Titanic's name engraved on them. A pair of binoculars were issued to each
officer, and when the officer was on duty, they were stowed in a teak box
located on the bulwark of the Bridge wings.
The actual keys were recently auctioned off for $106,600 dollars in 2014.
