G&L company is known for being founded by Leo Fender, the creator of the electric bass, in his last days.

The flagship model, the L-2000, a multi-use instrument with active circuit, is well known, but this SB-2 is a passive model developed by Leo Fender, who added new innovations to the historical model, the Precision Bass.

One of G&L's most distinctive features is its proprietary MFD (Magnetic Field Design Single Coil Pickups) pickups.

This pickup inherits the structure of conventional Fender pickups, in which the pole piece itself is magnetized, and is designed to enhance the magnetic force by placing a rod-shaped magnet in the bottom of the pickup.

This design gives the G&L pickups a very high output and powerful sound, which is one of the main attractions of the G&L pickups.

The controls are very simple, with only volume for each pickup.

I would like to talk about this in the subjectivity section below.

The bridge has been changed to "BADASS BASS II" which is famous for being used by Marcus Miller, and the strap pins have been changed to JIM DUNLOP lock pins, which shows how the previous owner used this guitar practically.

Subjective view

First of all, I was impressed by the density of the sound when the front and rear were output separately. First of all, the front end is very powerful and the low end is as strong as you would expect. The rears also had a very dense mid to high mid range, which gave the impression of an ideal, well-defined sound.

I was convinced that the wide-range and powerful tone when these pickups are mixed at full tenor is the result of the excellent performance of each pickup, each of which is responsible for a very wide bandwidth.

Another appeal of these pickups is the fact that they are very easy to create a sound from the richness of their individual characters.

For example, if you want to create a fat rock sound like a precision bass, you can start with 100% front and 0% rear, and if you need more treble or contour, you can increase the rear. It sounds like a very common way to create a 2Vol sound, but it is such an excellent pickup that you can intuitively create the sound you are aiming for.

The reason why only 2Vol control is used instead of 2Vol + 1Tone control may be because of the above mentioned reasons.

Also, the bridge was changed from the stock one to "BADASS BASS II," and I felt that the tension and long sustain of the bridge made the instrument even more playable. I think this modification is very practical and very good.

These things make it a very musical and practical bass that I can fully feel the quality of G&L's construction as an instrument and Mr. Leo Fender's attention to detail.

I really recommend the SB-2.

Condition

Overall, there is a sense of use, and some minor scratches and small dents can be seen here and there.

The nut has been replaced.

There is room for both trust rods.

The bridge has been changed from the factory one to "BADASS BASS II", so there are marks where the screw holes of the bridge before the change were filled in. (See the 8th picture.) ・Strap pin has been replaced with a JIM DANCE strap pin.

The strap pin has been changed to a JIM DUNLOP lock pin. (See the 9th picture.) ・Fretboard has been replaced.

There is a small gap between the fretboard and the fretboard, but there is no fret lift and there is no problem in playing.
