The SPD-SX features an optimized pad layout, enhanced functionality, and ruggedness to withstand intense use, while leveraging the sampling pad technology developed in previous models. The large color display and customizable multi-colored pad LEDs provide excellent visibility on dark stages. In addition, the abundant output jacks and TRIGGER IN jacks, as well as hi-hat control and expression pedal support, allow for more flexible settings. Since its introduction in 2011, the SPD-SX has been used and tested in a variety of situations both on and off stage, and the SPD-SX PRO incorporates years of feedback to enhance each feature. Customizable multi-colored PAD LEDs, a large color display, and reliable triggering pads provide peace of mind in any situation.

Customizable multi-color pad LEDs

Multi-colored pad LEDs on the lines dividing each pad. All nine pads can be distinguished even on a dark stage. The vertical and horizontal LEDs can be customized as desired. For example, the kick, snare, backing track, and click can be grouped in different colors. In addition, the LEDs under each pad can be switched between constant, hit, and WAV playback.

Nine Pads for Stable Performance

The SPD-SX PRO is equipped with nine durable pads. In addition, the three pads on the shoulder section have an improved sensor structure that allows triggering regardless of the angle of the setting, improving playability. The size of the pads and chassis are almost the same as those of the previous SPD-SX series, so you can play the SPD-SX PRO without any discomfort even when replacing other SPD-SX series instruments.

The large 4.3-inch LCD color display shows important information in real time, such as sample layers, tone names, and playback progress relative to the overall length of the WAV data. Backlit buttons and knobs for smooth operation allow you to quickly and easily adjust and check settings even on a dark stage.

All the sounds you need

The large 32 GB memory capacity allows a single unit to handle performance data from multiple stages. In addition, more than 1,550 preloaded sounds and 43 preloaded kits are built in. Up to 200 kits can be stored, so they can be used immediately from the day you get them. Sounds can also be tagged and sorted, making it easy to find the sounds you want to use.

SPD-SX PRO - Under the Hood

High-quality 48 kHz sample playback

SPD-SX PRO is capable of playing back high-quality samples at 48 kHz (16-bit). In addition, it can import 44.1/48 kHz (16/24/32 bit) WAV/AIFF and MP3 (32-32 kbps) files, which are automatically converted to 48 kHz (16 bit), saving significant sample import time. Approximately 44 hours of stereo data can be stored.

Abundant and flexible output systems

In addition to L/R stereo MASTER OUT terminals, four DIRECT OUT terminals (balanced output) are provided on the rear panel. The outputs can be freely assigned to pads for greater mixing flexibility. A PHONES jack for monitoring is also provided.

Smooth kit switching

The processing power of the SPD-SX PRO makes it possible to switch from one kit to another without interrupting the sound. As soon as the last sound played finishes playing, it can be ready to call up sounds from other kits. In addition, sounds can be added from the Roland Cloud sample library. You can use it on various stages while instantly switching between kits.

Highly compatible layered sounds can be created

Easily create layered sounds by assigning two sounds to a pad. Each layer can be individually adjusted for volume, pitch, transient attack/release, etc., allowing you to create layered sounds while blending the two sounds together.

Loaded with features to expand the range of your performance

To achieve a great performance, you need to be prepared, and with the SPD-SX PRO, you can easily import and manage sounds with a dedicated app, combine up to four multi-effects, change sounds with a hi-hat control or expression pedal, and create 16-step pads. Dedicated app for quicker editing

The dedicated app (Windows/Mac compatible) makes it easy to manage a huge amount of sample data. The USB cable connects to a PC for easy importing of sample data from the PC, drag-and-drop to create kits, and editing of kit parameters is also possible. The same USB connection can also be used to send 8 channels of audio and MIDI to a PC for DAW recording.

Equipped with hi-hat control/expression pedal jacks

The hi-hat control jack allows you to open and close the hi-hat as you open and close the pedal, making it possible to connect a V-hi-hat, snare, and kick like the VH-10 and use it as a simple drum set. An expression pedal can also be connected to control master effects while playing.

Effect functions for flexible tone changes

Four built-in multi-effects include modulation, distortion, filter, delay, reverb, and more. They can be assigned to any pad or external trigger input. A master effect/comp/EQ can also be used to apply effects to the final stage of the master out. In addition, a side-chain compressor is built in. For example, a side-chain compressor linked to the volume of the kick can be applied to the backing track so that the kick sound can be heard without being buried.

Extensive INPUT jacks for expansion

The SPD-SX PRO has four TRIGGER IN jacks that can be connected to up to eight drum triggers or pads using a Y-shaped cable. When the unit's pad and footswitch inputs are added, up to 19 different sounds can be played from a single kit.

16-step pad sequencer function

The pad sequencer function allows for more efficient performance. Assign from 2 to 16 steps to any pad in each kit, and play them back in sequence on a single pad, eliminating the need to remember which pad each sound is assigned to.

Pad Link function for synchronized playback of sounds

The Pad Link function allows you to hit one pad and play audio from multiple pads simultaneously. This is useful, for example, when you want a backing track and a click track to play simultaneously, and can also be linked to external triggers. In addition, a mute group can be set so that when the next pad is struck, the sound from the previous pad is muted, allowing you to switch between phrases as you play.

Click function with fine-tuned settings

The SPD-SX PRO's click function can be set in detail to suit the music being played. The tempo and beat can of course be changed, and sample data can be played as a click in addition to the built-in tones. Click playback can be assigned to any pad or external trigger, and can be switched to play once, restart from the first beat each time it is struck, or repeat on/off each time it is struck.

PAD EDIT knob for quick adjustments

The two PAD EDIT knobs on the top panel allow smooth on-the-fly fine-tuning of volume, pitch, transient attack/release, and other parameters. Another function, such as multi-effects control, can also be assigned. Frequently used functions can be adjusted with a single touch.
