Impressive Pair of Vintage Handcarved Onyx Marble Monk/Alchemist Reading Bookends. Circa: 1960's

Made in Tecali Puebla, Mexico. Known to be the Center of Onyx Artisan Objects. The Municipal Marker Onyx is Supplied by the Local Union Craftsmen. Mexican Onyx is Travertine, found near the Village of Tecali (Near Puebla). The Stone Tecali was Widely Used in Pre-Conquest Mexico. Favored by the Maya & Aztecs for Mask Making & Other Artifacts. Gorgeous Pale White Onyx even Translucent in Certain Areas. These Handcarved Bookends are Sleek, Smooth & Cold to the Touch. The Visible Veins are not a Defect but are Actually a Natural Characteristic known to this Incredible Oxide Mineral.

These Bookends are in Great Condition especially Considering their Age with Only Minor Abrasions.

Each Bookend Stands 8" Tall with a 3" Wide Base & 4.25" Depth. The Pair is Solid & Sturdy Weighing 6lbs 11 ounces.
