Sony flagship DVD player DVP-S7000 USA domestic version.  This is Sony’s first generation reference DVD player with dual discrete optical pickups (650nm for DVD and 780nm for CD/VCD), separate audio/video power supply, digital noise reduction circuitry, full feed forward digital filter, and pulse current D/A converter.  Although it is from the 90's and only outputs 480i, it still outperforms most progressive scan players on the market today even its own sibling S7700.

The S7000 has an extremely good picture quality, which is still considered one of the best even by today's standards.  The color is faithfully natural with well-balanced skin tone.  The picture is ultra clear with excellent detail.  The rigid chassis and honeycomb transport damper effectively reduce vibrations to provide a stable and precise optical performance.  While there are plenty of DVD players today with progressive scan and upconversion capability I have not seen one that can produce a better picture than this on my Sony XBR HDTV.  This player is best for an SDTV or an HDTV that has a decent up-conversion engine.  Unlike its successor S7700 or even the flagship S9000ES, the S7000 does not suffer from the infamous chroma upsampling error, aka chroma bug.  The chroma bug may not be readily noticeable for some people but once it catches your eye or when viewed on a large screen it can be very annoying.  Search "dvd benchmark cue volume 8 player list" to see a list of DVD players with and without the chroma bug.

This particular unit is one of the very few from the early production (March 1997) which comes with the switches on the main board for defeating the Macrovision and region locks.  I have disabled those two locks and the player can now playback any DVD of any region code in NTSC format (not PAL or SECAM).  You can switch them back to the "lock" positions if you wish to.

Audiophiles may choose to use the S7000 exclusively as a CD player or a stand alone transport due to its superb audio circuitry.  The audio board on this machine is independent and is easy for DIY upgrades.  There is an extra set of RCA output as well as a digital coaxial and Toslink outputs.  Please note that the S7000 supports CD-R and some DVD+R but does not playback DVD-R discs.

This is one of the S7000's I have and I am unloading it to lighten up my massive AV gear collections.  Player was used regularly in our family room and still works perfectly.  In excellent condition!  The only cosmetic blemish is a small scuff mark on the upper right corner of the faceplate as shown in the closeup.  Player has never been modified, tempered with, or required service/repair.  For all of my CD/DVD players I use a canned air to remove dust from the disc before putting it in.  This helps keep the lens and all sliding/moving parts in the transport clean.  A remote from a S7700 and a Xerox copy of the operating instructions are included.  Will pack and ship in a strong corrugated box with plenty of cushions and I guarantee no DOA.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Good luck!

On a side note: the S7000 is a solid machine built with extremely high quality craftsmanship.  With regular proper cleaning it should serve you a long time.   I have one that I let my friend use in his video store.  It has more than 6500 hours on the DVD laser lens and it is still going strong and playing perfectly!
