The Kingston Trio was an American folk and pop music group that helped launch the folk revival of the late 1950s and late 1960s. 1958's release of "Tom Dooley" sold over 3 million copies.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Kingston Trio's 1957-1997 formation of the band, which consisted of banjo, guitar, and tenor guitar, Martin released three instruments in 1997, the D-28, 0-18T, and VEGA banjo, in a limited edition of 40 sets.

The inner label bears the signatures of Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds, George Grove, and John Stewart, all members of the band, as well as Martin IV, and the 27/40 serial number.

This instrument is a 4-string tenor guitar with a small 0-size body, spruce top, mahogany side backs, and ebony fingerboard and bridge. There are dot position marks at the 5th, 7th, and 10th frets on the fingerboard with band name inlays below them. Gold open back pegs.

Although it is 25 years old from new, it is in excellent near mint condition with no signs of use from being collectively case stored.

The paint surface retains the luster of when it was new and is shiny. There are no dents or scratches, and the gold plating on the pegs is shiny. There is no fret wear. It can be played in either the 1-4 string tuning of a 6-string guitar or in tenor guitar tuning. The neck is straight and straight. This limited edition signature model is in excellent condition.
