There are over 6,000 species of ladybugs. A Ladybird (or Ladybug) is believed to be lucky by almost all world cultures, historically and cross-culturally the symbolism is all very similar and include: talent, protection, healing, good fortune and good luck. Hence, the ladybug appears in the folklore and mythologies of many cultures. Killing one is said to bring sorrow and misfortune. If a ladybug is held in the hand while making a wish, some believe the direction that it flies away shows from where your luck will come, whereas others believe if one lands on you then you should count the number of spots to predict how many years of good luck you'll have, and alternatively many also think the spots indicate the number of months until your greatest wish comes true. It's even been said that finding one of these beetles in your home signals good luck.
