Intro of the book.

This is a collection of German and English hymn translations, the matching translations side by side where possible.

The desire for this book was formed when as a child a futile attempt was made to hand copy many of these matching transla-tions.

To my knowledge all these translations are the original hymns written as the authors translated them with only a few as late as 1935.

All the German hymns have English translations with a few exceptions. (1) There may be one or two translation requests. (2) Some hymns can be sung to other tunes. (3) Leonard Klock's Ger-man hymn of praise.

I am aware of newer translations in print to the Lob Lied. To introduce translations of later dates than included would seem to open a new category of translations.

Would that German hymns were sung and used to the extent of English hymns of this day, a new comprehension might be attained to the loss of our German language of the present and future genera-tions.

These hymns were meant to be sung in honor and glory to God and not to be sung for the gratification of the emotions or what may seem pleasing to the ear.
