----------------------------------

his property is located on Pontaillac Beach, in the western part of the town. It succeeds a first café-restaurant built in 1880, then known as “La Restauration”. Rebuilt in concrete in the 1930s, it therefore took the name of "Sporting". The only casino to escape the bombing of 1945, it was under the direction of Roger Genty, a violinist by training, from 1946 to 1987. Le Sporting then welcomed a number of stars from the post-war period.

In 1951, the big star of the blues, the American Big Bill Broonzy, stopped off at Sporting, followed closely by Charles Trenet, Marie Dubas or Jean Nohain.

In 1953, it was Joséphine Baker's turn to perform on her stage, followed the following year by Jacques Brel, Charles Trenet, Line Renaud and the famous humorist Fernand Raynaud. Grand galas are organized in all seasons, punctuated by the Henry Laura orchestra. In the following years, the "Sporting" scene still hosted Raymond Devos, Sacha Distel, Léo Ferré, Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Bécaud, Petula Clark, Yves Montand or Georges Brassens [5].

Since the destruction of Claude Ferret's casino, it has been the only gaming establishment in the city.

The emergence of seaside tourism and the fashion for "sea bathing" prompted the municipality of Royan to consider the creation of leisure establishments very early on. Frequented by the Bordeaux bourgeoisie, like its "rival" Arcachon, then by Parisian high society, Royan thus acquired five casinos, only one of which remains today. Some of these establishments were considered in their time as architectural prowess: thus, the "municipal Casino", erected in 1895 by the architect Gaston Redon, was until its destruction in 1945 the largest casino in France. In another register, the modernist Casino of the architect Claude Ferret, destroyed in 1985, was one of the flagship monuments of the agglomeration by its avant-garde character.
