This sturdy 4-volume leather set from the National Portrait Gallery was published by D Rice & Hart in 1856. The books feature

portrait engravings and biographical sketches of distinguished Americans, including historical figures of Colonial America and the frontier. The engravings are well preserved and the leather binding issues a distinguished presentation. This rare collection is a must-have for any collector of Americana, especially those interested in the presidents and other historical figures of the early United States.
