Mistra Estates Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from olives grown in the foothills of Mt. Taygetos is southern Greece, overlooking the ancient city of Sparta. The trees grow in the shadow of the medieval fortress of Mistra, a city belonging to the imperial family of Byzantium from the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries. This purely Greek olive oil comes from trees grafted from wild olive stock and is produced in limited quantities by traditional and painstaking methods.

Because the olive trees of Mistra Estates are cultivated by the centuries-old dry method, fed only by seasonal rains, they yield small harvests with very rich oil. The olives are hand-picked and carefully selected, and the oil is produced from their first cold extraction. The result is a full-bodied, deeply-colored olive oil that can be appreciated for its own distinctive bouquet and rich and complex flavor.

The oil is estate-bottled under careful supervision, each bottle individually numbered and marked with the harvest year and labelled with full nutritional information in accordance with FDA and EU regulations.

Mistra Estates Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from as many as ten varieties of olives from trees grafted from wild olive stock. These include mainly the renowed varieties of athenolies and koutsourolies. The estates also include reftolies, trypiotikes (stroghylolies), mourtolies, matolies, antholies, mavrolies and korakolies (Kalamata). Small quanties of olives from wild olive trees are included in the harvest. Each variety of olives has its own distinct aroma, so that the natural blending of such a wide range of olives created a full-bodied olive oil with its own distinctive bouquet and rich and complex flavor.
