Antique Photogravure HOME OF THE PIONEER by JULIAN RIX Famous 19th Century CA Artist

 8 3/8 in x 11 5/8 in
on a heavy weight matte paper

Found a box full of these photogravures in my storage from an estate purchase
They have been cropped from their original 14" x 19" sheets
due to damaged edges and moisture stains to the borders
They also contain a paper title page that was originally produced with the photogravure

Photogravure is an intaglio printmaking or photo-mechanical process
whereby a copper plate is grained (adding a pattern to the plate)
and then coated with a light-sensitive gelatin tissue which had been exposed to a film positive,
and then etched, resulting in a high-quality intaglio plate
that can reproduce detailed continuous tones of a photograph.
