This cartridge, created in 1943 by Nikolai M. Elizarov and Boris V. Semin, is globally renowned since World War II. A medium-powered cartridge with low production costs, it served as the main Soviet round until the arrival of the 5.45x39mm. Despite its size, the 7.62x39 remains the most widespread.

Versatile, it powered the AK-47 and various weapons. In the Soviet Union, the lacquered steel casing reduced costs, making it highly popular.

Today, it's sought for hunting and sports.

Loading and Construction:

Military versions feature slower-burning powder, often more potent than newer rounds. FMJ bullets with steel cores of varied lengths are common, with tracer, incendiary, armor-piercing, and hunting versions available.
