5 or 6 December Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas, punishing the naughty children and scaring them, -. Thus it acts in opposition to St. Nicholas, who distributes gifts to good children.. It is believed that when the is capricious child Krampus puts it under his pillow charcoal or puts it in his bag and takes away the frightened child in the cave, presumably to eat for Christmas dinner
