The Visitor was created in 1996 by Belgian artist Guido Deleu, as part of a contest to design a sculpture for the main entrance of a cultural centre in Flanders, Belgium. This striking but simple sculpture embodies a kind and friendly figure, enjoying his view. The Visitor is a kind figure whom anyone would welcome with open arms. The ceramic figurine is designed by the Belgian sculptor Guido Deleu and is skillfully manufactured by hand at the studio Cores da Terra in Brazil. Cores da Terra has become well known for developing and educating local artisans, as well as for its direct contribution to the economic and cultural development of one of the poorest areas of Brazil.
