PAIR of Primitive Student Writing Slate School Chalk Board Wood Frame 2 Sided H5Treat yourself to a little bit of one-room-school house charm.
Condition: Good used condition but each has seen plenty of use by school children. These
are natural slate chalkboards made from cut stone, so the surfaces are uneven, with saw
marks. Both desktop chalkboards have the scriblings and writing of children from many
years ago on the wooden frames. On one chalkboard the frame has a child's name inked
over in fountain pen, plus scriblings in crayon. Good, solid construction, no loose joints or
fittings.
Provenance: One board has the student's name signed with a fountain pen in cursive as
"Guenever". That's a very rare name. But I found that Guenever Florence
Burrell was born on November 4th, 1887, in Weymouth, Norfolk, Massachusetts,
United States - so this chalkboard may have been signed by Guenever who married
Walter T. Cronin in 1914.
Estimated age: 1880 to 1910
Measurements: 9" x 7" x 5/8".
Construction: Natural hand-cut black slate stone, oak or other hardwood frames,
and cotton wadding ribbon finishing the edges to prevent splinters on little hands.
