1830 ORIGINAL leather-bound hardcover. Ex-Library archive (deaccesioned) historical artefact with spine label, namplate,stamp on fore edge, pencil librarian notation on first page of text and blindstamp on last page. Features a contemporaneous inscription on blank page that reads:

"(Hector?Alexander?) Murphy, New Market, Ohio February the 23rd 1831". (New Market, Ohio is now part of Hillsboro (Highland County), Ohio.)

Though the first part of the signature of Murphy is indecipherable, upon researching the Murphys of New Market this may be of interest to the decendents of Hector Murphy 1751-1835 or Alexander Murphy(1806-1884).

The spine is fragile and cracked at hinges and lower panel. All pages are intact but the frontispiece engraving is incomplete and missing a panel as shown.  See index for subjects and biographies in the text.  Full title is:

"American Military Biography containing the Lives and Characters of the Officers of the Revolution Who  Were Most Dinstinguished in Achieving Our National Independence. Also, The Life of Gilbert Motier La fayette, Major-General in the continental Army - Marshal of france, and Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard"
