An original copperplate, engraved map of LIDESDALE (Lidalia) in the Scottish borders. First published by Johan Blaeu in his Atlas Novus (part V) in1654 from an survey by Timothy Pont. The map is unframed and unmounted (printed area 410x520mm); has good margins; and is hand coloured. It includes a magnificient title cartouche and scale, surrounded by a multitude of figures and putti. The map covers the valleys of Liddel Water and the River Esk close to the Scotland-England border and shows in detail rivers, towns, states and settlements. The verso text is Dutch, though this is partly obscured by a thin paper backing. There are a number of small wormhole repairs, but overall the map is in very good condition.
