YAMAHA SA-90, made in 1974

YAMAHA's first semi-acoustic model! This is the top of the line model at that time!

This Japan Vintage model boasts high popularity both in Japan and overseas for its careful craftsmanship and high quality wood materials!

It was used by Jim O'Rourke of Sonic Youth and sold for 250,000-300,000 yen overseas.

The number of good condition items is decreasing and the price is expected to go up in the future!

YAMAHA's SA series has an established reputation for its excellent sound.

The SA series has many fans as a popular series that demonstrates YAMAHA's tradition and technical capabilities.

A very long seller starting from its introduction in 1967 and continuing to the present day.

Its history is long. After the introduction of the SG-3 (S302), the first SG series and YAMAHA's first electric guitar, in 1966, the first model of the SA series, the SA-5 (SA-50), followed in 1967.

The following year, in 1968, the SA-5 was renamed the SA-50, and the SA-15, SA-30, and other models were added to the lineup, marking the full launch of the SA series.

However, the early SA series was very different from the current SA series, with its full-acoustic construction without a center block and unique body shape, giving it a so-called "Bizarro guitar" feel.

The SA-60 and SA-90, which appeared in 1973, were semi-acoustic guitars with a center block while retaining the unique body shape of the earlier models.

The SA series was not limited to the SA series, but many of the YAMAHA models of this period, while having a unique appearance, were quite practical in content, and were somewhere between the original line that had existed until then and the general-purpose line that came after that.

The 1977 model change finally brought specifications closer to the current configuration, and from this point onward, the SA series underwent a series of model changes while incorporating features not found in other companies, such as the adoption of a bi-sound system.

This product is an SA-90 released in 1973.

The body has a unique cutaway shape that is reminiscent of the early SA series, and the 2-ham specification, the original high-class blanco tailpiece, and the jack plate with the YAMAHA logo printed on it all show YAMAHA's attention to detail.

Controls are 2Vol, 2Tone, and 3-way selector.

This model is not equipped with the bi-sound system yet, and its configuration is similar to a general ES-335 type semi-acoustic.

This model is believed to be made in 1974 from the pickup date.

YAMAHA's unique approach and full semi-acoustic sound.

Body is made of birch top + beech side and back

Neck is made of beautiful bird's eye maple, and the fingerboard is made of black ebony

Approx. 628mm scale, 22 frets, set neck specification.

Katsura is used for the center block, which has a rich airy sound typical of semi-acoustic guitars and a core sound that retains its sound image.

The knobs, bridge, and tailpiece are all original Yamaha elements, and the attention to detail can be seen in the specifications.

The position marks are decorated with pearl block inlays, which combined with the black ebony give the instrument a luxurious look.

Covered humbucker pickups are mounted.

The front pickup has a mellow sound with an airy feel, and the rear pickup has a gritty sound that can be used in a variety of genres.

Controls are 2 volume and 2 tone with 3-way toggle switch.

The sound is very attractive after about 50 years.

The neck condition is flat.

There are minor scratches and dull parts due to use.

String height is 12F, about 1.8mm on the 6th string and 1.6mm on the 1st string.

The strings used are .010-.046 strings.

The truss rod has room to tighten and loosen in both directions.

The frets are about 40% full, and there are no parts that are low.

There is no chattering or clogging.

The guitar comes with a genuine hard case and a genuine guitar strap.

The guitar strap has deteriorated badly over time and should be considered a bonus.

The leather guitar strap is a rare item that fans of the instrument will be very happy to have!
