An Overview of Stig Lindberg's Karneval series
Stig Lindberg designed the ”Karneval” (Carnival) series in 1957 for
the Gustavsberg factory. It was made of earthenware and consisted of 19
vases and 13 dishes. The objects came with cylinder, block, quadratic,
or rectangular shapes. They had tin glazes with bluish-white tones and
hand-decorated colorful surrealistic motifs. Each model came in many
different color schemes. The motif figures were similar to those in
Stig’s textiles, children book illustrations, and deck of cards.
Karneval, with its era-typical expression, was produced in 1958–1962.
