The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics was an international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities that took place in Tokyo, Japan, from August 24 to September 5, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was held without spectators, and with various health and safety protocols in place.


The Paralympics featured 539 events in 22 sports, including athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby. Over 4,400 athletes from 162 countries participated in the event, making it the biggest Paralympic Games ever.


The opening ceremony featured the theme of "We Have Wings," and included a performance by drone formations spelling out the words "Hello Tokyo" and the Paralympic emblem. The Paralympic torch relay involved both able-bodied and disabled participants, and was designed to highlight the spirit of inclusivity.


The athletes who competed at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics demonstrated incredible skill and resilience, setting numerous world records and inspiring people around the world with their performances. Many athletes used the platform of the Paralympics to advocate for disability rights and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with disabilities.


The closing ceremony featured performances by Japanese musicians, as well as the passing of the Paralympic flag to the organizers of the next Paralympic Games, which will be held in Paris in 2024.
