Description: Dr. Hermann Klein, editor: SIRIUS: Zeitschrift für Populäre Astronomie, V 11, 12 monthly issues, Leipzig. 1878; 6 x 9 in;  Pages numbered from 1-288. 12 full page plates, including one foldout of a map of the path of the total solar eclipse of July 29, 1878 (see photos) and a foldout star map of the southern hemisphere as mapped by Sir John Herschel. A few charts, mostly of positions of the Jovian or Saturnian Moons.

Condition: Hardbound in quarter leather over pebbled boards. Ex lib with the usual plates, cards and stamps. Black tape at bottom of spine with call number sticker. Scuffing to hinges and small loss of leather at the top of the spine. Only slight wear at extremities of cover. A couple of small pencil lines in the margins and a very few foxing spots. (See photos) .Interior is otherwise clean, tightly bound, and unmarked throughout with 12 plates in good condition, including two foldouts. Overall VG+.

Information: An informative and unusual old compilation of popular astronomy articles from Germany, in German, with some seldom-seen illustrations.  Articles about comets, the lunar surface, the great nebula in Orion, the Greenwich Observatory, the search for a planet inside Mercury's orbit, the UV spectrum of the sun, the two moons of Mars (relatively recently discovered), etc..

A nice addition to any library on astronomy, stars, galaxies, astrophotography, amateur astronomy, history of astronomy, planets, astronomical instruments, telescopes, etc. etc. I have other volumes of this magazine available—please inquire if interested.
