Exceptional Antique Meiji Carved Burl Art Nouveau Basket Yonic Okimono Bowl Sculpture

This is an amazing antique hand-carved burl, or possibly root, basket or bowl from the late Meiji period of Japan. This clearly yonic inspired flower form features many beautifully carved naturalistic, Art Nouveau elements across it's entire outer surface. I personally love the assymetry of it. The basket itself has a very finely carved feel to it, with exceptionally thin walls. The bottom portion of the length, for instance is probably no thicker than an eighth of an inch.

Aside from some very minor surface wear and interruptions to the finish here and there, this piece is in remarkable condition. The only real damage is two small breaks, one of which was repaired by regluing the broken pieces, and the other is unrepaired and visible at the pointed end of the piece(see pics). Both of these problems are along the outer edge of the bowl. I will say, the repaired spot looks much worse in the pictures than it does in person, probably due to the flash from my camera. I have done nothing to try to repair or refinish this basket, as I feel its future owner will probably want to deal with it as they see fit.

This basket measures approximately 16 inches(41 cm) in length and approximately 7.5 inches(19 cm) in width at the outer edges. It stands approximately 7.25(18.5 cm)inches in height at the handle. If you require special arrangements or shipping through UPS, please allow additional time. Also, I charge a $10 handling fee for UPS shipping, i charge this fee because i do not want to ship via UPS.
