Description

The J-200, named the King of Flat-Tops along with the Martin D-45, continues to reign as the top model of Gibson acoustic guitars. It showed off its presence with its gorgeous decorations and overwhelming body size. After that, it was loved by many big-name musicians such as Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, and Kiyoshiro Imawano, and has always demonstrated its presence without regret as a guitar that symbolizes Gibson's longing for the future! This time we have a rare one from the 70's. It was not so popular until a decade ago. Until a decade ago, the 70's Gibsons were not very popular, but in recent years, they are a flowery item that is rapidly gaining popularity due to its easy-to-use sound!

Solid Sitka spruce top, solid maple side and back, 3-piece maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, 43.2mm nut, 17" super jumbo body with 25.5" scale. The soundhole position of the 70's J-200 is a little bit earlier and the body shape is slightly different from the 60's, but once you get used to it, it has a dignified appearance like the king of the world. The new J-200 has a double guard with an external PG, which gives the guitar a very impressive appearance.

The sound is a dynamic and powerful maple sound that is typical of a jumbo body! The sound is dynamic and powerful, and you will be able to fully enjoy the dynamic and powerful sound that is unique to this model. The low end is a bit tighter and the overall sound is a little more "graceful," which is why they have long been avoided by Gibson fans. It has a good sound balance and is more powerful than the 60's J-200. When played with a flat pick, the tight bass, thick midrange, and sparkling treble with a strong edge combine to create a powerful sound with a great sense of presence. The sound is lush and fresh!

The condition of the instrument has considerable age and wear other than the PG replacement mentioned above. First of all, the PG has been changed to a double guard, but since it is not a genuine PG, the pattern is printed and looks a little unfortunate when seen up close (laugh). However, when seen from a distance, the tortoiseshell pattern with golden flower motifs shines through, and the atmosphere is quite nice. The wood under the left and right PGs does not seem to be damaged, but for some reason, the paint between the PGs seems to have been peeled off once. There is also some black adhesive protruding from the edge of the right PG, so it looks like a very rough job to replace the PG. There is also a crack on the first string side of the bridge from under the wing to the end of the body, which has been repaired with glue. This repair was done with great care and is so neatly repaired that it is not noticeable at a glance. Reinforcing cleats have been driven from the inside of the body, so there is no need to worry about strength. The bridge has a horizontal line of crack repair at the pin hole. Compared to the top, the sides, back, and neck are in fairly clean condition with only a few scratches. The pegs have been replaced with Gotoh open backs for smooth operation.

The neck is in good condition and straight. The current string height is about 2.2mm on the 6th string side and 2.0mm on the 1st string side at the 12th fret, which is very easy to play. There is a little more room in the saddle, so further fine tuning of string height is possible. The frets do not appear to have been played much since they were refretted, so there are no dents to be concerned about, and there is still enough height left.

The sound and appearance of this guitar is one of a kind and has a dignity that is not found in recent years! It is a gem with a punchy sound that will surely catch your attention when you play it!

The case comes with a general-purpose hard case.
