Beautifully bound.  Mary Ann Evans (1819-1880), one of the earliest women authors, wrote under the pen name George Eliot.  She authored eight novels during the Victorian era and Middlemarch was considered the finest novel in the English language.  This volume contains Chapters 1 through 4 of Middlemarch.  It was printed in Boston by Estes and Lauriat, n.d.   Rebound with leather and marbled boards; 436 pages, frontice, front and end papers.  Measures 5 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches.   Minor wear on edges, light spot on front cover.
