Alvis, 1938, 4.3Litre Tourer, green and chrome, by Franklin Mint, purchased at auction on Diecast.org (Martin Soriano). Alvis Ltd was a British maker—the name Al for aluminum pistons and Vis, Latin for strength. Thus it implied lightness and strength. Had an engine featuring 6 cylinders inline. Founded by Thomas John “the Welsh Wizard”, who built his cars in Coventry. The cars achieved notice in race winning. The 4.3litre built between 1936 and 1939, was one of few cars of the time that could reach speeds over 100 mph. It was a four seater touring car and had four doors with cut away lines and a sumptuous body. The factory was bombed during WWII, but continued until 1965 when it was bought by Rover and then British Leyland. In 1981 it was sold to Scientific Holding where it built heavy vehicles and armored cars. The car you are interested in is one of an extensive collection that my 91-year-old father, my housemate (for the past 3+ years and cancer patient) built over a 30 year period. He has asked me to sell the collection. He was/is the car collecting aficionado, not me, (at all) and I am learning the nuances of this selling business the hard way. For example, I had no idea I was supposed to dust these cars that have been packed up in Styrofoam. )I am learning from purchasers and not always in a kindly way.) I try to handle them as gently and as little as possible because they are fragile. I have zero idea of what specific accoutrements are supposed to be on/with the cars. There are hundreds of cars and I also take care of my 88 year old mother with Alzheimer’s who lives nearby so I do not have time to research each car to try to determine if any of these cars is in mint, or excellent or good or fair condition. I do my best to take plenty of very clear and closeup photographs of each car which should allow the buyer plenty of information regarding whether or not he or she would like to own the car, basically, enough visual information to make an informed decision and to prevent any disappointment when the car arrives. The prices listed are based on other vehicles in the same class and category that appear to be in the same or similar condition. Unless USPS handles the package too roughly, the car will be delivered exactly as pictured. If you don’t want to take the risk of purchasing a model car from a person who is not an expert in the area, please don’t. This car has been stored and ships in original packaging.
