Chiyotsuru (千代鶴) Unju 65mm Japanese Kanna (Smoothing Plane) hand forged by master blacksmith Shogo Tanaka. It is a beautiful kanna! New old stock so may have minimal scratches. Condition is incredible (see photos).

Mr. Shogo Tanaka was involved in the production of planes in Yoita, Niigata Prefecture from the Showa era to the Heisei era. He used microscopes to check the metal structure of his blades.

He improved quality and sharpness of his kanna blades based on scientific analysis by incorporating equipment such as hardness meters and thermometers.

He passed away in 2002.
