For auction is an unusual and characterful original handmade vintage doll made by Jay of Dublin . He measures approximately 20 cm or 7.5 ins tall. He stands upright on a square wooden base. I am not sure when this dates to but possibly the 1970s.
This doll has a hand-painted plaster face, felt hands and a padded cloth body supported on a wire frame. His face is very well modelled and painted with blue eyes, bushy eyebrows and with what seems to be the shadow of stubble. He has red hair under his knitted hat.
His costume is nicely detailed with checked wool trousers a black knitted sweater, cream woollen waistcoat and jaunty yellow felt scarf. He also has an unusual and colourful plaited wool belt.
He has both a cloth label inside his waistcoat saying 'Jays traditional dolls handmade in Ireland ' and his original paper label describing his traditional outfit as 'Connemara Man'.
Please study all photos carefully as they form part of the description . Please ask if you require any further information or photos - I will do my best but I really do not know any more about this little person.
