A most impressive example of a

WW-II British Home Front

Concrete, Wood & Lead Logo'd Tobacco Jar

Constructed out of Salvage

recovered from

The House of Commons

London

On the night of May 10th & 11th 1941,

Germany's Luftwaffe launched another

raid on the capital city

and hit the House of Commons,

causing untold damage... but repairs,

to the Parliament buildings were eventually effected.

Much of the cleared concrete, wood & lead

was taken away and stored in Essex,

but in 1945 it was decided to utilise

this material to make fund-raising items for

British victims of the Second World War.

A wide range of souvenir items were ultimately

created, many being popular over in the US,

and a large amount of money was raised as a result.

Measuring approx 5.5" square by 7.5" high

the top is capped by a circular wooden lid

bearing an inlay upon which is etched

THIS STONE CAME FROM THE

HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT

With a china inset, the front of the concrete body bears a

leaded circle bearing an image

of the Clock Tower that houses

'Big Ben'

around which is also etched the same legend:

THIS STONE CAME FROM THE

HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT

In an absolutely superb condition,

this large and very evocative piece of

WW-II London Blitz History

weighs an absolute ton and you wouldn't want to drop it on your toe,

but will be securely padded & carefully wrapped for its postal journey.

A cracking souvenir from the WW-II British Home Front

Thanks for looking..!
